Phase 2 of the Suame Interchange Project in the Ashanti Region is 87 percent complete and is expected to be opened to traffic by the end of October 2026.
The Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwame Governs Agbodza, announced the progress during an inspection of the project on Thursday as part of his working tour of the Ashanti Region.
The second phase includes the construction of three overpasses at Anomangye Junction, Magazine New Road Junction and Abusuakruwa Junction.
The overpasses at Anomangye Junction and Magazine New Road Junction have been completed, while work on the Abusuakruwa Junction overpass is 98.25 percent complete.
The project also involves the widening of the Offinso Road (N10) into a 2×3-lane dual carriageway. Work on that section is currently 77 percent complete.
In addition, 13.2 kilometres of the planned 15 kilometres of local roads under Phase 2 have been completed, alongside improvements to selected intersections.
The completion and opening of the second phase is expected to ease congestion and improve traffic flow within the Suame area.
It will also pave the way for more intensive work to begin on Phase 1 of the project.
Phase 1
Phase 1 of the Suame Interchange Project will include the construction of a three-tier interchange at Suame, two overpasses at the Abrepo Junction and Krofrom junctions, and the widening of the Eastern and Western Bypass roads.
The project is expected to significantly improve connectivity and traffic movement within one of Kumasi’s busiest commercial and transport corridors when completed.
