Legendary Ghanaian gospel musician and multiple award-winner, Esther Smith’s comeback after a decade of disappearing from the music industry has come with a lot of revelations about her.
In a recent interview on GTV’s ‘Spectacle’ she opened up about her experiences with witchcraft and black magic, often referred to as ‘juju,’ in the United Kingdom—a belief that continues to plague the Ghanaian arts and entertainment industry.
In what seems to be an extremely unexpected event where she resides in the UK, Esther spoke about how she woke up one morning to “two bones tied with a red cloth” in her doorway. Contrary to what Africans believe, this is a clear indication that witchcraft or ‘juju’ has no physical barriers, and there is no running away from it, she added.
This attempt on her life was a frightening one and came as a wake-up call to rise to do battle for her spiritual life and her ministry.
She went on to share another chilling experience from a time when she was scheduled to perform in Columbus, Ohio. On the day of the event, the church’s Head Pastor suddenly fell ill, and it was later discovered that the church had been surrounded by crates of eggs—a typical sign of ‘juju.’
Reflecting on these incidents, Esther expressed her gratitude for God’s constant protection, humorously noting that “the witches outside Africa are even more powerful and numerous than those back home”.
She ended with some words of wisdom, advising us to seek God properly in all things. There is no greater source of protection than what comes from the ‘Omnipotent One’.
