UPSA renaming: Ghanaians won’t vote for you to continue ‘shameless renaming spree’ – Apaak to NAPO

The deputy ranking member of the Education Committee in Parliament, Dr. Clement Apaak says Ghanaians will not vote for the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) to continue renaming public institutions.

This follows the NPP’s Vice Presidential candidate, Dr. Mathew Opoku-Prempeh also known as NAPO, who disclosed that the plans to rename the University of Professional Studies-Accra (UPSA) as ‘Opoku-Ampomah University of Professional Studies remain unchanged.

The promise was first made by President Akufo-Addo on April 25, 2018, at the UPSA’s Fourth Special Congregation.

At the same Congregation, the University also conferred on Nana Opoku-Ampomah an honorary doctorate for his immense contribution to the country’s education development.

During a visit to Nana Ampomah who is the Chief of Amoafo in the Ashanti Region’s Bekwai Constituency, as part of his campaign tour in the region, NAPO reassured the chief of their promise to rename UPSA after him.

“The necessary constitutional and legal processes have been put in motion to effect the name change to ‘Opoku-Ampomah University of Professional Studies’, NAPO stated.

Commenting on the development, the Builsa South lawmaker described the move as ‘shameless’.

Dr. Apaak asked the NPP to mention any institution they have started and built during their eight-year tenure.

“Your shameless stock in trade is to rename public institutions. How many have you secured funding for and built from scratch in your eight years in office?

“News flash, Ghanaians will not give you the mandate to continue on your shameless renaming spree”, Dr. Apaak stated in a tweet on X.
