Dr. Richard Anane, former Member of Parliament for Nhyiaeso and former Minister for Health, Roads, and Transport, has expressed strong reservations about the leadership of Bernard Antwi Bosiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, as the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
In an interview on Abusua965FM’s program Abusua Nkommo with host Kojo Marfo, Dr. Anane was asked whether he was satisfied with the current NPP leadership in the Ashanti Region under Chairman Wontumi.
He responded candidly, saying, “The party voted for him, but to someone like me, he hasn’t done well.”
Dr. Anane revealed that prior to Wontumi’s appointment as regional chairman, Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen had advised supporting Wontumi for the position.
“Alan told me we should help him to become Chairman, but later I realized Alan didn’t help us with someone who can help the party,” Dr. Anane said, suggesting that the advice did not translate into effective leadership outcomes for the party.
Pressed further by the host on whether Alan Kyerematen’s recommendation had proven unhelpful, Dr. Anane reiterated his position firmly, stating, “Yes. To me, either Alan didn’t know him well or something else. I have been in the party for a very long time, and where Wontumi was coming from, that’s not how I see him. The people that were there before Wontumi came, and how I see him then and now, I believe he has not performed well as a regional Chairman.”
When questioned if he would welcome a new contender to challenge Chairman Wontumi, Dr. Anane responded positively, emphasizing the importance of effective leadership.
“Provided the person is someone you see will help the region to rise again because the most important thing is that the region must rise,” he said.
