The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced the timelines for the re-run of the parliamentary primary election in the Walewale constituency in a statement released today, September 2, 2024.
In a statement signed by the party’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, indicated that “No one will be denied access to purchase nomination forms.”
This comes on the back of the Tamale High Court order for the re-run of the disputed NPP parliamentary primaries election for the Walewale constituency.
The judge, who is yet to deliver the fully written judgment, has instructed the second defendant and third defendant to conduct the re-run in accordance with electoral laws.
However, Samson Lardy Anyenini, legal counsel for the first defendant, expressed disappointment with the court’s judgment.
But, the party has set September 3, 2024, as the opening date for nominations, with a non-refundable application fee of GHC 3,000.00. Frimpong cited, “An Aspiring Parliamentary Candidate (APC) shall obtain nomination forms by paying a non-refundable application fee in a banker’s draft payable to the New Patriotic Party National Headquarters, Accra.”
To successfully file the nomination, an APC shall pay a non-refundable filing fee of thirty-five thousand Ghana cedis (GHC 35,000.00). However, women, youth, and persons with disabilities (PWDs) will receive a 50% discount on the filing fees. Frimpong elaborated, “This means they must pay a non-refundable filing fee of seventeen thousand, five hundred Ghana cedis (GHC 17,500.00).”
The party has also established an Elections Committee (EC) to supervise the primary election, comprising Alhaji Haruna Mohammed as Chairman, Alhaji Nurudeen Fuseini as Vice Chairman, and others. Frimpong stated, “The party has also approved detailed rules and regulations to govern the conduct of the parliamentary primary election, which will be made available to stakeholders.”
The nomination forms will be available for purchase at the constituency party office, with the election scheduled for September 8, 2024. Frimpong stressed, “Nomination forms will be available for purchase at the constituency party office.”
