The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has issued a shocking directive requiring all parliamentary candidates to dedicate at least four days each week to their constituencies.
This decision, announced by General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong on October 4, 2024, addresses concerns about candidates’ inconsistent engagement with voters, which could jeopardize the party’s performance in the upcoming December elections.
This call by the party comes at the time President Akufo-Addo has reiterated that he don’t have the interest to impose anyone on Ghanaians.
“As President, I cannot impose anybody on you. I don’t have the power, and I don’t have the interest. Just as I was elected, the next person to stand here in my shoes will also be elected by the people of Ghana.
“But I believe that as an 80-year-old man who has been a two-term President of Ghana and who has been involved in a lot of Ghana’s recent history, certainly in the history of the Fourth Republic, I am in a good position to advise who should come and stand in my shoes,” he stated.
To ensure accountability, the General Secretary stressed that all regional campaign teams are tasked with submitting weekly activity reports on candidates.
The NPP emphasizes that active constituency presence is crucial for electoral success in both presidential and parliamentary races, urging candidates to strengthen their connections with constituents during this critical campaign period.
