The National Tenants’ Union of Ghana has officially endorsed the housing policies of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) after a thorough evaluation of proposals from various political parties.
The statement said “after comparing the housing policies of both parties, the National Tenants’ Union of Ghana have decided to endorse the housing proposals of the National Democratic Congress”.
The Union in a statement criticized the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) housing initiatives, described it as “recycled, unfulfilled broken promises,” highlighting the unaffordability of current housing schemes, which exceed $20,000 for basic units.
“The NPP’s 2024 housing policy titled “Access to housing for all” once again promises social and affordable housing, despite failing to deliver on similar promises made in 2020″.
The NDC’s 2024 policy includes transforming the Rent Control Department into an independent authority and promoting low-cost housing solutions.
The Union urges the NDC, led by John Dramani Mahama, to implement these commitments if elected, emphasizing the need for affordable housing for all Ghanaians.
“We call on the NDC’s leadership and their Presidential candidate John Dramani Mahama to fully implement these policies if elected, to alleviate the housing challenges facing many Ghanaians”.
The Union however assured that they will hold the future John Mahama led govt accountable to these promises during the 2025- 2028 period.
