Former Assin Central MP Kennedy Ohene Agyapong has called for an end to internal divisions within the New Patriotic Party (NPP), warning that without unity, the party stands no chance in the 2028 general elections.
Speaking to journalists in Kumasi at the Prempeh International Airport ahead of his visit to Adum Railways Fire Victims Kennedy Agyapong delivered a stirring message, blending hard truths with vivid analogies to drive home his point.
“Unity is non-negotiable. If we are not united, even if Jesus himself leads the party, we will not win,” Agyapong declared, his voice echoing with urgency.
He emphasized the need for the NPP to move beyond past grievances and focus on the bigger picture.
“We must put everything that has gone wrong behind us and forge ahead as one. Unity is our only weapon.”
Agyapong drew a striking parallel from the animal kingdom.
He illustrated “If you observe lions and their behavior when they encounter a group of five elephants, the lions will initially lie low and avoid confrontation. However, when one elephant strays from the herd, the lions will gather in large numbers and work together to bring it down. This is why lions are such effective hunters—their strength lies in their unity. So, if animals can unite to defeat a giant elephant, why can’t we, as human beings, do the same?”
Agyapong did not shy away from addressing the party’s missteps, particularly during the last election primaries . “The way we conducted our last primaries didn’t help us. It was a lesson, and we must learn from it,” he admitted.
He cautioned those seeking to the lead the party by stating “Anyone who wishes to contest for a position must understand that without unity, we cannot achieve any goal,” he said.
Agyapong also cautioned against divisive slogans like NoKenNoVote or NoBawumiaNoVote, stating that such sentiments would not benefit the party in the long run.
