Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), 2024 elections Campaign Manifesto Committee who double as Member of Parliament for the Suame Constituency in the Ashanti region has described boycotting of the Party’s regional campaign working committees’ team members inauguration by some aggrieved elected regional executives as unfortunate.
The party on Sunday 11th August 2024 inaugurated the various committees responsible for the coordination of the party’s 2024 activities across the 47 constituencies in the region.
However, five elected regional executives boycotted the all-important event graced by Vice Presidential candidate for the party Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu, Chief of staff, Chairman Wontumi among others.
The aggrieved regional executives including the Youth Youth Organizer Raphael Sarfo Patrick, first Vice chairman Patrick Acheampong, second Vice chairwoman, regional organizer Francis Adomako, among others claimed they were sidelined by the regional chairman in planning and formation of the working committees.
Responding to the development in the party, the former Majority leader of parliament Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu told Kojo Marfo on Abusua FM that ” I was aware of the development at the event grounds. I noticed the boycott by the said aggrieved members. We can’t approach the election with divided front’’ he said.
He assured the party will resolve the issue as soon as possible “currently we are preparing for our manifesto launch in Takoradi next weekend when we finish the program we are all returning to Ashanti to work here. It is the first issue that we will sit on to resolve. That’s the work of the dispute resolution committee and we will work it out’’ he assured.
Ahead of the elections 2024 the new patriotic party has set a target of 85% in the Ashanti region while their main opponent the NDC has also set a target of the 35% votes target in the region.
These clearly make the region a battle grounds for the elections 2024 because the NDC is confident that if they achieve their target in the region they will automatically win the elections. while’s the NPP are also strategizing on how to check the NDC’s rapid growth in the region.
