The National Youth Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Salam Mustapha, has strongly condemned the arrest of the party’s Bono Regional Chairman, Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC, warning the government against what he described as continued intimidation of opposition members.
Speaking in reaction to Abronye DC’s arrest, Mustapha cautioned the government to ensure the safety of the NPP regional chairman while in custody.
“We are sending this warning and caution to government that they should release Abronye. Otherwise, should anything happen to Abronye in custody, you will have us to contend with,” he stated.
The NPP youth leader further accused the government of persistently targeting members of the opposition party through intimidation and harassment.
“And this constant harassment and intimidation of NPP people, if you people don’t stop it, we will make sure that we react in such a way that you will not be happy with us,” he warned.
Mustapha said the opposition party was prepared to support government through constructive criticism but cautioned that attempts to suppress the NPP could deepen political divisions.
“You have a country to govern, and we are here to support you and give you the best of advice from the opposition point of view. If you turn us into enemies, we will give you rebellion,” he declared.
He also suggested that the NPP could mobilize its youth base in response to what he described as politically motivated actions against party members.
“If you have to weaponize the entire youth of the NPP and rally behind our entire support base, I promise you we will,” he said.
The circumstances surrounding Abronye DC’s arrest have continued to generate political debate, with sections of the opposition accusing the government of selective justice, while supporters of the government insist the law must take its course.
