The Banmuhemaa of the Wenchi Traditional Area, Nana Akosua Twumwaa, has commended President John Dramani Mahama for appointing more women to serve as Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) across the country.
“I am grateful for the nomination of Ms. Gloria Opoku Gyamfi as the MCE for Wenchi Municipality,” Nana Akosua Twumwaa stated.
She also expressed her heartfelt appreciation to the Assembly Members of the Wenchi Municipal Assembly for overwhelmingly confirming the President’s nominee, Gloria Opoku Gyamfi, without prejudice based on gender.
The Queenmother congratulated Ms. Gyamfi on her nomination and confirmation, encouraging her to be humble and selfless in her leadership.
Nana Akosua Twumwaa urged the new MCE to dedicate herself to accelerating the socio-economic development of the municipality. She further encouraged her to focus on the welfare of women and girls, especially in rural areas.
“Empower rural and elderly women, improve access to resources, support market women, and promote skills training for women,” she advised.
It will be recalled that following the 2024 presidential election, the Queenmother congratulated President Mahama on his return to office and praised him for selecting Her Excellency Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang as Vice President. She had also called on the President to appoint more women into leadership positions.
