The Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE) of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), Richard Ofori-Agyeman Boadi, has made it clear that any development activities currently taking place at the Adum Blue Light enclave lack his approval.
Speaking in an interview on the AbusuaNkommo program on AbusuaFm, hosted by Kojo Marfo, Mr. Boadi explained that following a devastating fire that destroyed several shops at the site, the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, issued a directive transferring oversight of the area to the Kumasi Traditional Council.
He stated, “His Majesty announced that the Kumasi Traditional Council, led by Nana Asafohene, is to manage affairs at Adum Blue Light. Until I receive communication from Nana Asafohene, I cannot comment further.
“Whatever is going on there has not received my blessing,” Mr. Boadi emphasized.
When asked if this meant the Traditional Authority was now responsible for the restoration, he reiterated, “Otumfuo publicly handed over the management to Nana Asafohene and the Kumasi Traditional Council. We operate under their authority, so I am awaiting guidance from the council on how to proceed.”
Meanwhile, Mr. Boadi has earlier on issued a stern warning to individuals undertaking unauthorized renovations at the fire-affected site, emphasizing that such actions are at the perpetrators’ own risk.
He threatened that the KMA would demolish any illegal structures erected in the area.
