Kumasi-based Zongo Alliance for Peace (ZAP) has organized a massive inter-party peace and unity walk to encourage politicians and the electorate to uphold peace and unity ahead of the upcoming general elections.
Thousands of party faithful took part marching through the principal streets of Kumasi amidst a fan fair and display of placards with various inscriptions for peace with brass band music to boot.
The Peace walk which was held under the auspices of the Office of Asanteman Zongo Nkosuohene in collaboration with the Manhyia Palace aimed at reminding Ghanaians to sustain the peace prevailing in the country before, during and after the polls.
Addressing the gathering at the forecourt of Kumasi Central Mosque where the walk ended, the Asanteman Zongo Nkosuohene, Sarki Abdullai Ali Barry stressed the importance of fostering harmony amid diverse political views with particular emphasis on the Zongo communities.
“Mandated by the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II to oversee the peace, unity and development of Zongo communities in the Ashanti Region, it is my responsibility to ensure peaceful co-existence. Without peace nothing can thrive particularly in this election period “, he said.
Sarki Barry commended the collaboration of all the political parties for their massive turnout which he described as a significant step toward ensuring peace and urged the electorate to cast their votes peacefully on December 7 to avoid falling foul to the electoral laws.
Otumfuo Dwantoahene, Nana Sefa Bosompem who represented the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, reiterated the call for peace and unity as a hallmark of His Royal Majesty.
He entreated Ghanaians to learn lessons from war-torn countries and noted without peace human activities would come to a standstill as every act of development had the tendency of being stalled.
