The AGA Health Foundation (AGAHF) is expected to unveil a Computerized Tomography (CT) scan facility and an Endoscopy unit to offer services from the 2nd quarter of 2025.
In the last 4 years, AGA Health Foundation, set out to retool and improve their services to meet the demands of the community and institutions they serve.
The hospital has added on a 24-bed capacity Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), a state-of-the-art eye care centre, a dental unit, as well as establishing both dental and eye care unit. With the recruitment of other specialists, AGA Health Foundation currently runs comprehensive specialist services in internal medicine, emergency medicine, paediatrics, obstetrics and gynaecology, general surgery and family medicine.
Over the years, patients who required advanced diagnostic services for various medical conditions in Obuasi were compelled to travel to Kumasi or Accra.
This according to the Executive Director of AGA Health Foundation, Dr. Kwadwo Anim, puts families of such patients in uncomfortable situations including the risk of travel. With civil works ongoing, the facility is expected to commence operations latest by the 2nd quarter of 2025.
In an exclusive interview Dr. Anim said the provision of CT scan and endoscopy services were imminent since Obuasi is fast growing and demands for such services have soared especially with the provision of specialized care including intensive care services.
He said once completed and full operation, it will go a long way to minimize referrals and alleviate the plight of patients and families and improve healthcare to the community.
Reviewing the hospital’s performance in 2024, though there was a tremendous improvement in the hospital’s performance per its 2024 targets, the Executive Director stressed that there was more room for improvement.
He said the facility strives for excellence hence will continue to render quality healthcare services to the community.
He also hinted that one key area AGA Health Foundation seeks to improve in 2025, is to place more emphasis on staff development and customer service.
“We believe that when staff have the right trainings and career development, they will be able to deliver the required services to the people who seek our services”.
The AGA Health Foundation, a Sustainable Development Unit of AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi Mine, is one of the largest referral Hospitals in Ashanti Region with bed capacity exceeding 150.
AGA Health Foundation (AGAHF) hitherto called Ashanti Goldfields Company (AGC) Hospital and later Edwin Cade Memorial Hospital (AngloGold Ashanti Hospital was established in 1st Feb 1930.
