Veteran journalist Kwesi Pratt Jnr. has commended former President John Dramani Mahama for appointing Colonel Gbevlo Lartey (Rtd) as National Security envoy to the sahel regions describing the decision as a strategic move that reflects the former president’s commitment to robust national security.
Speaking on the appointment, Mr. Pratt extol the exceptional credentials and career achievements of Colonel Gbevlo Lartey, noting his extensive experience in military operations, counterterrorism, and intelligence.
According to Mr. Pratt, Gbevlo Lartey’s background as a skilled military officer and his training in specialized international institutions make him uniquely qualified for the position.
“Colonel Gbevlo Lartey is not just an ordinary soldier; he’s a man with vast experience and extraordinary capabilities. He has trained in top military schools and earned his reputation as an anti-terrorism expert. His charisma and professionalism set him apart, and his appointment is a significant boost to Ghana’s national security apparatus,” Mr. Pratt remarked.
Reflecting on Gbevlo Lartey’s military career, Mr. Pratt pointed out that he served as a commander in several critical operations, including assignments with international recognition.
“This is a man who has seen action at different levels, including commanding an infantry brigade and excelling in anti-terrorism initiatives. His competence and strategic thinking are well-documented,” Mr. Pratt stated.
The journalist also emphasized Gbevlo Lartey’s leadership qualities, which, according to him, are evident in his ability to mentor and lead teams effectively.
He noted that the retired colonel’s leadership in national security affairs had earned him the trust and respect of both military officers and civilian stakeholders.
In his analysis, Mr. Pratt praised the inclusion of retired military officers and other experts in the national security setup during Gbevlo Lartey’s tenure, stating that their collaboration ensured a well-rounded and professional approach to safeguarding the country.
“His ability to mobilize resources and talent, both locally and internationally, speaks volumes about his leadership,” Pratt added.
While applauding Gbevlo Lartey’s past contributions, Mr. Pratt expressed optimism that his leadership as National Security Coordinator would further strengthen Ghana’s security framework.
However, he cautioned that national security issues required vigilance, collaboration, and significant investment.
“National security is critical to the stability and progress of any nation. Colonel Gbevlo Lartey’s appointment is a good step, but it’s essential to provide him with the resources and support he needs to execute his duties effectively,” he said.
Colonel Gbevlo Lartey’s appointment by President Mahama was widely seen as a signal of the government’s intent to prioritize national security amidst rising global threats.
As he assumes the role, many Ghanaians, including key figures like Kwesi Pratt, are hopeful that his experience and expertise will translate into effective measures to protect the nation.
