How Asiedu Nketia claims victory over NPP propaganda in Sunyani

We will cancel the Double Track System to improve quality learning hours in SHS – Asiedu Nketia

National Chairman Of NDC Johnson Asiedu Nketia

National Chairman of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, popularly known as “General Mosquito,” has recounted what he described as a momentous defeat of the opposition New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) propaganda machinery in Sunyani years ago.

Speaking in an interview on Accra-based Class FM, closely monitored by Kumasi Mail, Asiedu Nketia gave a characteristically vivid and unfiltered narration of how he exposed what he termed an elaborate disinformation campaign by the NPP prior to the 2012 elections.

According to him, the episode began when reports emerged that a young man working at a filling station described as a known NDC serial caller was dismissed from his job.

He explained, “The party boy went to one of our senior female members to plead that I should employ him at my fuel station in Sunyani. I was shocked when I first heard the news. I insisted I don’t own a fuel station, but every party member in the region didn’t believe any explanation I gave,” he said.

He told the host that before he became aware of the NPP-sponsored propaganda, it had already spread across Sunyani that he owned a large number of fuel trucks and a fuel station. “It was all over the main media in the region,” he added.

The incident, he claimed, prompted him to investigate the actual owner of the fuel station. “During our party event in Sunyani, I directed all our party people who came from the Northern Region through Sofo Azorka to fill their tanks at the said fuel station. I told them to say that the owner, Asiedu Nketia, had instructed them not to pay,” he said.

He explained that when the fuel attendants tried to make them pay, they were assaulted, as the customers couldn’t understand why the attendants were defying what they believed were the owner’s orders.

He further recounted, “Later, the actual owners, who had been aware of the propaganda from the beginning, held a major press conference in Sunyani the next morning to dispel the rumors and reject the NPP propaganda suggesting I owned the fuel station. For me, I know what the NPP is capable of doing. However, if you allow them to use your business as a propaganda tool, note that you alone will suffer the consequences,” he warned business owners.

General Mosquito, known for his colorful and often cryptic political commentary, suggested that the alleged propaganda campaign was aimed at discrediting the NDC and him in particular Sunyani as corrupt politician in  Bono region 2012-2016.  However, he said, the attempt backfired.

The NDC Chairman concluded by affirming that the party remains vigilant and ready to confront misinformation and propaganda as the country gears up for the 2028 general elections.

While some aspects of his remarks appeared fragmented and anecdotal, the core message was a defiant rejection of opposition tactics and a reaffirmation of the NDC’s political strength in the Bono Region.
