The Attorney General and Minister of Justice, has disclosed the completion of investigations by the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO) regarding Bernard Antwi Bosiako, popularly known as Wontumi, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

According to Dr. Dominic Ayine, the probe also included the former Chief Executive Officer of the National Buffer Stock Company, Mr. Abdul Wahab Hannam, alongside other implicated individuals.

He revealed, “The Economic and Organized Crime Office has completed investigation respect of Chairman Wontumi and the former National Buffer Stock Company CEO Mr. Abdul Hannan Wahab and their accomplices.

“The results of both investigations will be announced very soon,” Dr. Ayine added.

Dr. Ayine made the revelation during the Governance Accountability Series, where he provided updates on several high-profile corruption investigations currently under review by his office.

In addition, Dr. Ayine revealed that the office is expecting to receive investigation reports in the coming weeks related to Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL). The dossiers under preparation by the National Investigation Bureau cover several major scandals, including the Mathematical Sets fraud, the All African Games financial mismanagement, and the Drainage and Irrigation Project (DRIP) scandals.

“I expect to receive that investigation report in a few weeks for work to begin in filing charges in court,” he stated.

The Attorney General also confirmed that the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service has completed investigations into the Akonta mining fraud case.

He confirmed “The police CID has also completed docket on the Akonta mining case and submitted same to my office. We’ve prepared charges and sent them back to the police for the suspects to be formally charged before their arrangement in court in the coming days.”

Concluding his briefing, Dr. Ayine emphasized her commitment to the principles of transparency and accountability in the anti-corruption drive.

He reiterated an earlier statement on the investigation involving Kwabena Adu Boahen, underscoring that his office remains open to plea bargaining arrangements with those found culpable in the misappropriation of state resources.

He elaborated “I am open to engaging in plea bargaining with those who have been investigated and found to have looted all stolen state resources. I mince no words about my intentions and Will therefore shut the doors to any accused persons willing to enter a negotiations with my office for purposes of reaching a plea agreement.

“My approach is consistent with the central principle of ORAL, which is to recover ALL the loot. But of course, you use ALL advisedly because, as I have clearly pointed out, it is not in ALL cases that it is possible to recover ALL the loot,” Dr. Ayine concluded.
