The Ghana Police Service has announced the deployment of advanced security technology to ensure maximum safety during the upcoming Akwatia by-election on September 2,2025.

Addressing the media in Akwatia on Friday, the Director General of Operations, COP. Dr. Vance Baba police revealed that the measures will include CCTV surveillance, body cameras, and drones to monitor activities across the constituency before, during, and after the polls.

The police says its technology enabled capabilities will provide real time information across all polling stations for swift interventions.

The technology will help argument operation of many personnel deployed including some 600 specialized patrol operation team.

The Police also reiterated the Inspector General of Police announcement to deploy the Black Maria, a specialized vehicle designed to hold individuals who attempt to cause violence or disrupt the electoral process.

“When you see the Black Maria around, don’t be afraid—provided you are not going to cause any confusion or violence during this electoral process,” the police stressed.

To prevent interference at polling stations, security escorts for candidates will not be allowed inside but will be stationed 100 metres away.

The Police says, the security escorts will only accompany their principals when necessary, after which they must return outside the designated zone.

The police also cautioned the public and the media against the spread of misinformation and disinformation during the election period.

A command centre will be available to verify information for journalists and the public.

“It is very important that the media and those on social media cross-check facts before publication. This will help us sanitise the media space and ensure only accurate information is shared,” officials emphasized.

The police further clarified that the military will remain on standby and will only be called upon if their support becomes necessary.

The Police urged voters in Akwatia to remain calm and come out in their numbers to vote as the police is ready to protect them.
