President John Dramani Mahama has directed contractors working on the Pokuase–Ofankor–Nsawam road project to strictly adhere to the 2026 completion deadline, warning that excuses will not be tolerated.
The President gave the directive during an inspection tour of the busy highway on Wednesday, where he was accompanied by the Minister for Roads and Highways, Governs Kwame Agbodza, and officials of the Ghana Highway Authority.
The visit was to assess progress of work and address concerns over delays that have long plagued the project.
The government, on August 4, 2025, disbursed GH₵809 million to speed up construction, which is being handled by Maripoma Limited. After the tour, the contractor assured the President that the road would be completed by the first quarter of 2026.
President Mahama responded firmly, stating that the company would be held to its promise.
While underscoring the project’s importance to easing traffic congestion and boosting economic activity, the President also urged the contractor to ensure proper site management so that ongoing works do not obstruct the free flow of traffic.
He further stressed the need for the use of quality materials in delivering the road to meet modern standards.
At the same time, President Mahama assured the contractor that the government remains committed to honoring all outstanding financial obligations to ensure that funding challenges do not stall the project again.
The Pokuase–Ofankor–Nsawam stretch is one of the busiest transport corridors in the Greater Accra Region, serving as a major link between Accra and the Eastern Region.
