A man believed to be in his late 30s has been shot and killed by unknown gunmen in what is suspected to be a robbery attack at Aketechieso, a mining community in the Amansie Central District of the Ashanti Region.

The deceased, identified as Martin Issah, was reportedly attacked alongside his brother, Daniel Issah, on Sunday, October 5, 2025, while returning from a mining site at Adomanu.

According to reports, the assailants ambushed the two brothers at Aketechieso and demanded their gold detector machine before opening fire on them.

Martin was shot in the face and died instantly, while Daniel sustained gunshot wounds but managed to escape the scene.

Confirming the incident, the Assembly Member for the Aketechieso–Amamuom–Anakyirem Electoral Area, Krobea Asante, described the attack as alarming and called for increased police presence in the area.

“The security situation here is becoming worrying. I’m appealing to the police to intensify patrols, especially around mining communities, to prevent further loss of lives,” he said.

The body of the deceased has been deposited at the morgue, while the injured brother is receiving treatment at a nearby health facility.

Meanwhile, police in the Amansie Central District have launched investigations to identify and apprehend the perpetrators.
