HeFRA shuts down Guinness Ghana Kumasi Clinic over expired operational license

The Health Facilities Regulatory Agency (HeFRA) has shut down the Guinness Ghana Limited clinic at the company’s Kumasi production site for operating without a valid license.

According to HeFRA officials, the corporate health facility had been running for the past six years without renewing its operational license, despite several reminders from the regulatory body.

Following the closure, HeFRA revealed that on May 19, 2025, a reminder letter was sent to Guinness Ghana, urging the company to renew its license and settle an administrative fine imposed for non-compliance.

However, the company allegedly failed to respond.

When the HeFRA enforcement team visited the facility as part of an ongoing compliance exercise in the Ashanti Region, they were initially denied access to the premises.

Police officers accompanying the team had to intervene before HeFRA officials were allowed entry to carry out the closure.

“The facility has been operating without a valid license for years, which is a serious breach of our regulations,” a HeFRA official said.

“Even corporate organizations must comply with the law. No one is exempt.”

The closure means that the Guinness Ghana Kumasi site currently has no functional clinic, forcing the company to rely on nearby health facilities for medical emergencies and staff healthcare services until the necessary licensing requirements are met.

The enforcement action forms part of a broader operation by HeFRA aimed at sanitizing the health sector in the Ashanti Region.

So far, about 200 health facilities have been earmarked for closure for operating without proper authorization.

HeFRA reiterated its commitment to enforcing healthcare regulations nationwide to ensure that all medical facilities whether public, private, or corporate meet the required standards of safety, professionalism, and patient care.
