The Commander of the 37 Military Hospital, Brigadier General Evelyn Vivian Abraham-Kwabiah, has dismissed media reports claiming that 12 people lost their lives in the stampede that occurred during the ongoing Ghana Armed Forces recruitment exercise at the El-Wak Sports Stadium in Accra.
Speaking to reporters, Brigadier General Abraham-Kwabiah clarified that the hospital received 28 casualties from the incident and that only six deaths had been confirmed as of Wednesday afternoon.
“There is a lot of misinformation circulating,” she stated. “The total number of casualties we received was 28. Out of these, six were confirmed dead, not 12 as some reports suggest. Five are in critical condition and receiving treatment at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), while 12 are fairly critical. The rest are stable and responding to treatment.”
She assured the public that the hospital’s medical team is providing all the necessary care to the victims and urged the media to verify information before publication to prevent unnecessary panic.
