A 28-year-old man, Benjamin Kwabena, popularly known as Wofa Atta, has been sentenced to 18 years’ imprisonment for sexually abusing three young siblings at Ahenema Kokoben, near Trede, in the Ashanti Region.
The victims an 11-year-old boy, a four-year-old boy, and their female twin are children of Mary Aboagye, a 46-year-old charcoal seller.
According to court records, the convict exploited a friendship between his elder sister and the children’s mother to gain access to the minors.
Prosecutors told the court that Atta frequently visited the family’s home with his bicycle and offered the children rides, a move that enabled him to build trust with them.
Investigations revealed that he used this familiarity to lure the children to his residence, where he committed the offences on several occasions.
The court heard that the abuse occurred multiple times involving all three victims.
The case came to light when the youngest child cautioned her brother against following the accused and later disclosed the incident to their mother.
The report led to Atta’s arrest and subsequent prosecution.
After trial, the court found Benjamin Kwabena guilty and handed down an 18-year custodial sentence.
The conviction has renewed calls for parents, guardians, and community members to remain vigilant and protect children from abuse, particularly in situations where offenders exploit trust and close relationships.
