Unichem Pharmaceuticals has inaugurated its Ashanti Regional headquarters in Kumasi as part of activities marking the company’s Founders Day and its continued expansion in Ghana’s healthcare sector.

The event, held on March 5, also commemorated the legacy of the company’s founder, Dr Mohamed, whose vision for accessible healthcare began more than 60 years ago when he first established the business in Africa.

Speaking at the inauguration, Director of the Unichem Group and Chief Executive Officer of Unichem Industries, Jason Nana Yaw Omohan, said the new regional headquarters would strengthen the distribution of pharmaceutical products and medical supplies across the Ashanti Region and beyond.

According to him, the expansion is aimed at ensuring consistent supply of medicines while improving access for pharmacies, hospitals, chemical shops and distributors across the country.

“We want to ensure that medications and supplies are consistent throughout the region. Unichem is here to stay,” he said.

Mr. Omohan noted that the Unichem Ghana Group has been operating in the country for nearly 40 years, forming partnerships with healthcare providers ranging from small over-the-counter (OTC) medicine shops to major wholesalers.

He explained that the company operates across several areas including healthcare distribution, marketing, manufacturing and logistics.

“Business is not only about profit but about people. At Unichem we believe in healing lives and touching souls. Our goal is to ensure wellness and provide support whenever people need medication,” he said.

The company currently distributes a wide range of pharmaceutical products across various therapeutic categories, including antifungal, antibiotic and antimalarial medications.

Some of its well-known brands include the deworming product Wembat, cough syrup brand Luex Poxerup and Dicolex, a pain management medication used for joint and waist pain.

Mr. Omohan added that the company also works closely with medical facilities across the country, supplying life-saving drugs such as Ciprolex TZ, Mycolex Cream and Neo Hycolex, which are widely used in hospitals and clinics.

He disclosed that the company plans to introduce about 20 additional brands onto the Ghanaian market this year while expanding its manufacturing capacity to ensure continuous supply nationwide.

“We have a new manufacturing facility which will soon be commissioned to expand our existing production base and support supply for the entire country,” he said.

Mr. Omohan further indicated that Unichem’s operations span several regions including Accra, Kumasi, Takoradi, Tamale and the Eastern Region, making its products accessible to both large distributors and small retailers.

Public Relations Officer for the company, Eddy Blay, said the opening of the Ashanti regional office would bring greater accessibility and improved pricing to healthcare providers and consumers.

“More accessibility is the first thing I would say. Better pricing and more care. This is not just a business; it is a family. Our focus is on spreading love and care through healthcare,” he said.

Mr. Blay also revealed that the company has established a creative division dedicated to engaging the public through music, television, radio and social media campaigns aimed at promoting health awareness.

He added that these initiatives form part of the company’s broader effort to connect with communities while promoting wellness across Ghana.

Unichem Pharmaceuticals says it remains committed to providing quality medicines and healthcare products while strengthening its presence across the country.
