The ongoing conflict in the Middle East is having far-reaching effects on global stability, John Dramani Mahama has said, urging prayers and collective action for peace during an Iftar gathering with members of the Muslim community on Monday at Jubilee House .
The President noted that instability in the region continues to impact the wider world, stressing the need for unity and divine intervention to restore peace. He appealed for prayers during Ramadan for Ghana, its leadership and conflict-affected regions.

“At a time when many parts of the world are faced with conflict and uncertainty, we must continue to protect the peace and stability Ghana enjoys,” he said. “I humbly ask for your prayers… for other parts of the world that are afflicted by conflict, especially the Middle East.”
Mahama added that the situation in the Middle East has broader global implications and called for a change of heart among those involved. He expressed hope that peace would prevail through dialogue and shared humanity.

He also cited teachings from the Quran that encourage unity and discourage division, emphasising that people must come together rather than engage in conflict. “We are one people. There is no need for the fighting that is taking place,” he said.
Turning to the significance of Ramadan, the President said the period offers an opportunity for personal and national renewal, urging citizens to reflect the values of compassion, forgiveness and moral responsibility in their daily lives.

“If you say you are a true Muslim or a true Christian, and you are hard of heart, unforgiving, wicked… then you cannot call yourself a true Muslim or a true Christian,” he stated.
Mahama also acknowledged the role of religious leaders in maintaining peace and unity in Ghana, commending the leadership of the National Chief Imam and the wider Islamic clergy for their continued efforts in fostering harmony.

He further described Ramadan as a period that promotes generosity, compassion and solidarity, urging Ghanaians to sustain these values beyond the fasting period.
