The Ghana Education Service (GES) has assured all qualified Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) candidates of placement into Senior High and Technical Schools across the country for the 2026 academic year.
In a statement issued on May 14, 2026, and signed by the Head of Public Relations, Daniel Fenyi, the GES congratulated Junior High School graduates on the successful completion of their examinations and announced that preparations had been finalized to admit fresh students on September 18, 2026.
According to the statement, comprehensive arrangements have been made to ensure that every qualified student gains access to secondary education under the Free SHS programme.
The GES also dismissed media reports claiming that about 72,000 students risk not being placed in schools, describing the reports as “speculative” and inconsistent with the facts on the ground.
“We wish to indicate that all qualified candidates will be placed in schools,” the statement stressed, urging the public to disregard contrary reports.
Management further indicated that there are adequate infrastructure and facilities nationwide to accommodate all qualified students.
The Service additionally assured stakeholders that ongoing efforts to phase out the double-track system would not negatively affect access to secondary education. Instead, it said the process would improve teaching and learning outcomes while maintaining full access for students.
GES reaffirmed its commitment to providing equitable, inclusive and quality education for every Ghanaian child and called on stakeholders to support the national objective of expanding educational opportunities.
