Former Chief Executive Officer of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP), Kofi Ofosu Nkansah, has criticised what he describes as unfair practices and victimisation within the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) internal electoral processes.
In a Facebook post, Mr. Ofosu Nkansah claimed that despite strong support from residents of Asante Akyem Central who encouraged him to contest as a parliamentary candidate, some party elders blocked his ambition and backed the incumbent Member of Parliament during the party primaries.
According to him, he incurred significant debts after contesting in two separate primaries and endured several challenges, but remained loyal to the NPP and consistently defended the government and the party.
“My Asante Akyem Central people loved my politics and approached me to come and serve them as MP, but my own party elders blocked me and supported the MP to cheat through the system as if I was an outsider,” he stated.
Mr. Ofosu Nkansah further expressed concern about ongoing polling station elections within the party, alleging that the process in some constituencies is being manipulated to favour incumbent Members of Parliament and constituency executives.
He argued that party members seeking to challenge current or former MPs are often treated unfairly, warning that such practices could undermine party unity ahead of future general elections.
“The victimisation of those who want to challenge current or former MPs should stop,” he wrote, adding that some polling station elections are allegedly being influenced to secure the re-election agenda of sitting MPs and constituency executives.
The former NEIP CEO called on the party leadership to ensure fairness and inclusiveness in its internal electoral processes to maintain unity within the NPP.
