Former Upper West Regional Minister Dr Hafiz Bin Salih has thrown his weight behind Hajia Humu Awudu for the position of Deputy National Women Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), arguing that her grassroots appeal, electoral resilience and community interventions make her a strong asset for the party’s organisational rebuilding.
Dr Bin Salih made the call in a public appeal to the NPP leadership, describing Hajia Humu Awudu as a politician capable of strengthening the party’s connection with women, young people and grassroots communities, particularly in northern Ghana.
He said the NPP’s future organisational strength would depend on its ability to identify and elevate energetic politicians with the capacity to mobilise at the grassroots and inspire confidence among voters.
‘She has been tested in Wa Central’
Dr Bin Salih pointed to Humu Awudu’s political record in the Wa Central Constituency, where he said she had won consecutive parliamentary primaries and mounted campaigns for the party in the 2020 and 2024 elections.
He said her ability to secure more than 30,000 votes in what he described as a traditionally difficult constituency demonstrated her capacity to mobilise support and sustain the NPP’s presence in a challenging political environment.
According to him, that electoral experience makes her particularly suited for a national organisational role at a time when the party is positioning itself for future elections.
‘Yelimaana’ and grassroots politics
The former minister also cited Humu Awudu’s work through the Hajia Humu Foundation, particularly in youth empowerment, women’s entrepreneurship and community support.
He said her reputation as “Yelimaana”, which he described as reflecting her problem-solving interventions, had earned her respect within communities.
Dr Bin Salih argued that her community work could help the NPP translate its stated human-centred values into practical grassroots engagement.
He further described her as energetic and passionate about political mobilisation, with an ability to connect with women, young people and rural communities.
Calls for mentorship
While strongly advocating her elevation, Dr Bin Salih acknowledged that Humu Awudu would require structured guidance and mentorship from experienced party figures to maximise her potential at the national level.
He said proper mentorship, empowerment and direction from party elders could transform her energy and grassroots experience into effective national organisational leadership.
He argued that she could serve as a bridge between the NPP’s grassroots base and its national leadership while helping to expand the party’s reach and reinvigorate its women’s wing.
‘I have not consulted her’
Dr Bin Salih stressed that his intervention was made independently and not at the request of Humu Awudu.
“I have not consulted Hajia Humu Awudu to ascertain whether she is interested in this position, nor have I contacted or conferred with any third party regarding this matter,” he stated.

He said his appeal was based solely on his personal conviction that she had qualities that could benefit the party.
“As an avowed patriot, it is prudent and duty-bound on my part to speak out and act independently whenever I identify an idea or a person I genuinely believe in as a tool fit for purpose,” he said.
Dr Bin Salih urged the NPP leadership to give the proposal “the objective consideration it deserves”.
He said his intervention was ultimately aimed at strengthening the party’s organisational structure as it prepares for the future.
“One party, One purpose, Forward Together,” he added.
