Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, Kwame Asare-Obeng, popularly known as A Plus, has given the Ghana Police Service a 48-hour ultimatum to provide a comprehensive update on the investigation into the gruesome murder of investigative journalist Ahmed Suale.
A Plus, who has been a vocal advocate for justice in this case, revealed that he had previously provided critical information to the CID, including the identity of a high-profile minister from the previous government who allegedly contracted assailants to carry out the heinous crime.
He also revealed that he disclosed his source, described as highly credible, to the CID director during the meeting.
“Last year, I was invited to the CID headquarters to provide information regarding the murder of Ahmed Suale. During the meeting, I identified a high-profile minister from the previous government who was allegedly involved in contracting assailants to carry out the crime. l also disclosed my source, a highly credible one, in the presence of the CID director”.
Despite this, the case remains unsolved, and the Ghana Police Service has failed to provide any meaningful updates.
The MP is demanding that the CID director updates the public on the progress of the investigation and indicates whether additional time is required to complete the probe. A-Plus expressed disappointment over the lack of progress in the investigation, stating that it appears the matter has been sidelined.
“It is critical that the CID director updates the public
on the progress of the investigation and indicates with justification whether additional time is
required. At this point, it appears the matter has been sidelined. If no update is provided within 48 hours, I will invoke my authority as a Member of Parliament to formally summon the Ghana Police Service to brief Parliament on this case”.
In a Facebook post A-Plus warned “I will utilize my Facebook and other social media platforms to update the nation on what I know about the matter which shall include the name of the alleged perpetrator”.
Ahmed Suale, a journalist with Tiger Eye P.I., was shot and killed in Accra on January 16, 2019, in what appeared to be a contract killing. Despite public outcry and calls for justice, no arrests or convictions have been made, and the case remains unsolved.
