Akwasi Oppong-Fosu, a former Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, has honored the memory of his dear friend and comrade, Ambassador Sam Pee Yalley, who passed away on April 6, 2025.

The news of Yalley’s passing has sent shockwaves across the nation, leaving behind an irreplaceable void in the hearts of those who knew him and the country at large.

Oppong-Fosu’s tribute, shared on Facebook, vividly captures the essence of Yalley’s remarkable life. Their friendship began during their secondary school days, where Yalley’s “sharp intellect and unwavering determination” were already evident.

This early promise blossomed into a distinguished career marked by dedication to public service and a relentless pursuit of excellence.

The paths of Oppong-Fosu and Yalley crossed again when they both served as District Chief Executives. It was during this period that Oppong-Fosu witnessed firsthand Yalley’s unwavering commitment to the betterment of their communities.

Their political journey together was a testament to shared aspirations and mutual respect, forging a bond that transcended professional boundaries.

Oppong Peprah recounted that Yalley’s most notable achievement was the founding of the NDC Professionals Forum, where he served as the Global President. Under his visionary leadership, the forum became instrumental in enhancing the party’s electoral fortunes.

A highlight of his tenure was the training of 15,000 polling agents ahead of the 2024 elections, a move that significantly contributed to the party’s preparedness and success.

President John Dramani Mahama acknowledged the forum’s pivotal role, stating that it was key to the party’s victory in the 2024 elections.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Yalley was a man of integrity, warmth, and generosity. His ability to inspire and mobilize those around him was unparalleled.

In the words of Oppong-Fosu, “Rest in peace, dear friend and comrade. Your legacy lives on.”

Read the full tribute by Hon Akwasi Oppong Peprah:
With profound sorrow, I pay tribute to my dear friend and comrade, Sam Pee Yalley, whose passing on April 6, 2025, has left an irreplaceable void in our hearts and the nation.

Sam and I first crossed paths during our secondary school days, where his sharp intellect and unwavering determination were evident. Our paths intertwined once more when we both served as District Chief Executives, during which I witnessed firsthand his dedication to public service and his commitment to the betterment of our communities.

Our political journey together was marked by shared aspirations and mutual respect. Sam’s vision led to the founding of the NDC Professionals Forum, where he served as the Global President. Under his leadership, the forum became instrumental in enhancing the party’s electoral fortunes. Notably, the forum trained 15,000 polling agents ahead of the 2024 elections, significantly contributing to the party’s preparedness and success. President John Dramani Mahama acknowledged the forum’s pivotal role, stating that it was key to the party’s victory in the 2024 elections.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Sam was a man of integrity, warmth, and generosity. His ability to inspire and mobilize those around him was unparalleled. He believed in the power of unity and worked tirelessly to bring people together for common causes.

As we mourn his passing, we also celebrate the legacy he leaves behind—a legacy of service, leadership, and unwavering commitment to the ideals we hold dear. Sam’s contributions to our party and our nation will not be forgotten. His memory will continue to inspire us as we carry forward the work to which he dedicated his life.

Rest in peace, dear friend and comrade. Your legacy lives on.
