Member of Parliament for Abuakwa South, Dr Kingsley Agyemang, has donated a range of medical equipment and consumables to the Kyebi Government Hospital as part of efforts to improve healthcare delivery in the municipality.
The items were handed over to the hospital on Friday, August 21, 2026, to help address some of the facility’s immediate equipment needs and enhance the capacity of health workers to attend to patients.
The donation included three suction machines, three electronic weighing scales with height measurement, two pulse oximeters, 10 blood pressure machines, 10 thermometers, three electronic patient monitors and 20 wheelchairs.
The package also contained several boxes of examination gloves and a cardiotocography (CTG) machine, among other medical supplies and equipment.
In addition to the donation, Dr Agyemang settled the bills of all in-patients at the facility as part of the intervention.
The MP explained that the support followed requests from the hospital management regarding equipment and other resources urgently required to improve the quality of care available to patients.
According to him, the initiative forms part of his broader commitment to supporting healthcare institutions and improving access to quality medical services in Abuakwa South.
Dr Agyemang acknowledged the economic difficulties confronting individuals and institutions but said healthcare delivery must remain a priority because delays or gaps in medical care could have serious consequences for patients.
He also announced plans to establish a dialysis centre in the area next year, describing the proposed facility as the first of its kind in the locality.
“Consideration are underway to see how we establish a diagnosis center here in the constituency by next year God willing.”
He said the decision had been influenced by concerns over what he described as an increasing number of people suffering from kidney-related conditions.
The proposed centre, he explained, would enable residents who require dialysis and other specialised kidney-related treatment to access such services closer to their communities instead of travelling long distances.
Dr Agyemang said the initiative would be privately driven but would complement existing government efforts in the health sector.
He noted that while government remained a major provider of healthcare infrastructure and services, individuals and private organisations could also contribute to addressing urgent needs instead of waiting solely for public interventions.
The MP further disclosed that steps were being taken to pay the medical bills of uninsured in-patients at the hospital.
He called for stronger collaboration among government, individuals, businesses, civil society organisations and other stakeholders to support healthcare financing and service delivery.
Dr Agyemang appealed to individuals, corporate institutions, development partners and indigenes of Abuakwa South, both within Ghana and abroad, to contribute towards the development of the Kyebi Government Hospital.
He said the hospital serves as a major referral facility for the municipality and therefore requires adequate equipment, infrastructure and other resources to effectively respond to the needs of residents and patients referred from other health facilities.
The MP stressed that the various interventions should not be viewed as isolated donations but as part of a wider plan to strengthen healthcare delivery in Abuakwa South through sustained partnerships and support.
As part of the broader agenda, Dr Agyemang is also expected to organise an Abuakwa South Health Summit to bring key stakeholders in the health sector together.
The proposed summit will bring together healthcare professionals, hospital administrators, policymakers, traditional authorities, private-sector representatives and development partners.
It is expected to create a platform for stakeholders to assess challenges confronting healthcare delivery in the municipality and develop practical, long-term solutions that go beyond individual donations.
Dr Agyemang expressed his appreciation to the management and staff of the Kyebi Government Hospital for their dedication to serving residents.
He urged other individuals and organisations with the capacity to support health facilities to consider similar interventions.
He said improving healthcare infrastructure, expanding access to essential equipment and bringing specialised services closer to residents would require collective commitment from all stakeholders.
The Medical Superintendent of the Kyebi Government Hospital, Dr Isaac Antwi, thanked the MP for the support and said the equipment and other interventions would contribute to improving service delivery at the facility.
He also appealed to other individuals, organisations and development partners to support the hospital as management and staff continue efforts to provide better healthcare services to residents of the municipality.
