The Attorney General (AG) has filed a Nolle Prosiqui to officially discontinue charges against the Democracy Hub Members who were protesting against illegal mining activities also known as galamsey.
With Nolle Prosiqui what it means is that – the AG is effectively indicating it is unwilling to pursue charges against the accused persons.
Activist Oliver Barker-Vormawor, social media influencer Ama Governor, Ralp Williams and Felicity Nelson have all had their charges dropped.
They were among some 53 protesters who were arrested for protesting against illegal mining during the tenure of former Attorney General Godfred Yeboah Dame.
They had all pleaded not guilty to six counts of conspiracy, unlawful assembly, causing unlawful damage, offensive conduct conducive to the breach of peace, assault on a public officer, and defacement of public notice.
But per the instructions of the new AG Dr Dominic Ayine, the State had entered a Nolle Prosiqui to discontinue charges against they.
