Aglow International gathered at the iconic Black Star Square for their Monthly Intercessory Prayers, focusing on two pressing issues shaking Ghana’s stability, the persistent power outages known locally as ‘dumsor’ and the controversial plan to privatize the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).
The prayer session was led by Gifty Afenyi Dadzi, who called on God to grant wisdom and understanding to key government officials.
“We continue to pray that our Father will give the Energy Minister, the Finance Minister, and all stakeholders greater wisdom and very great insight, as well as measureless breadth of understanding to solve these problems in order to forestall dumsor which will erode any gain made,” she said.
The group also prayed for the independent power producers (IPPs).
These producers have threatened to shut down operations due to delayed payments from the government.
Afenyi Dadzi prayed, “The IPPs which say they will withdraw, God touches them to give us time to pay them.”
She emphasized the seriousness of the power crisis, warning that prolonged outages could have severe negative effects on the country.
“This topic we need to be serious about it else, if we go to power crises it will affect us badly”, Dadzi remarked.
In addition to the power supply challenges, Aglow International prayed about the potential privatization of ECG.
“The next topic, the energy sector, is the way forward for ECG. That God will be gracious to Ghana and show our leaders clearly the specific areas of ECG that ought to be privatized,” she emphasized.
The group also called for national unity, especially among workers, to avoid strikes and unrest during this sensitive period.
“Let there be a national consensus on the labor front to avoid strikes and other forms of agitation,” Afenyi Dadzi added.
