The Ahafo Ano South West District Assembly has dismissed claims circulating on social media that a classroom block at Mankranso is being demolished to make way for the construction of a 24-hour market.
The District Chief Executive (DCE), Abubakar Sedik, described the claims as false, misleading and politically motivated, and urged the public to disregard the information.
The statement follows a video circulating on social media by Baabi Dellyee Kwaku, identified as the Communications Officer of the NPP in the Ahafo Ano South West Constituency, concerning the construction of the 24-hour market at Mankranso.
According to the DCE, there is no plan to demolish the classroom block for the market project.
He explained that the classroom block in question was constructed in 2022 but had remained unused since its completion. He said the facility was a misplaced priority at the time, particularly in view of the pressing developmental needs of residents.
“Let me state categorically that no one is going to demolish the said school building to construct the 24-hour market,” the DCE said.
He added that the market project was being undertaken independently and had “nothing to do with the demolition of that school facility.”

The Assembly said the 24-hour market was a major development initiative aimed at creating economic opportunities, improving trading conditions and contributing to the socio-economic development of Mankranso and the Ahafo Ano South West District.
Mr. Sedik therefore appealed to the public not to be misled by what he described as malicious and politically motivated claims surrounding the project.
He cautioned against allowing partisan politics and misinformation to undermine development initiatives intended to benefit residents.
“As District Chief Executive, my focus remains firmly on development and improving the lives of the people of Ahafo Ano South West,” he said.
The DCE reaffirmed his support for projects that he said would deliver meaningful and lasting benefits to communities across the district.
“I stand for development. The work continues,” he said.
