New Patriotic Party (NPP) national chairman hopeful, John Boadu, has criticised the appointment of individuals from Northern Ghana as District Chief Executives (DCEs) in the Ashanti Region, describing the practice as inappropriate.
Speaking on “Ghana Se Sen” on Lawson TV in an interview with Kwame Tanko, Boadu argued that such appointments do not reflect fairness in political representation.
He further claimed that individuals with Ashanti backgrounds face challenges when the NPP is out of power, alleging that the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) tends to favour appointees from Northern Ghana.
“Whether one agrees or not, this is an issue that must be addressed. When we are not in power and you bear an Ashanti name, you tend to suffer,” he said.
Boadu also cited what he described as disparities in appointments across regions. According to him, in Assin Central, both the DCE and Member of Parliament are from Northern Ghana, while similar opportunities are not extended to Ashantis in Northern regions.
“In my view, you cannot appoint an Ashanti as a DCE or MP in places like Tamale, yet we see the reverse happening,” he stated.
He maintained that the reported presence of several DCEs from Northern Ghana in the Ashanti Region undermines local representation.
Boadu added that such decisions are unfair to the people of the Ashanti Region and suggested that similar appointments would not be made in Northern Ghana under the same circumstances.
