The Ashanti Regional campaign team of former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has announced provisional results from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential primary, placing Dr. Bawumia firmly in the lead with 59.2 per cent of the votes cast in the region.
Speaking at a press briefing, Dr. Ayew Afriyie, Liaison Officer for Dr. Bawumia’s campaign in the Ashanti Region, said the figures were compiled through a real-time collation system that gathered results directly from various polling and collation centres across the region.
According to him, the provisional figures—based on pink sheets already collected and not under dispute—show Kennedy Ohene Agyapong polling 24.9 per cent, Bryan Acheampong receiving 13.7 per cent, Dr. Yaw Adutwum securing 2.0 per cent, and Kwabena Agyei Agyepong recording 0.2 per cent.
Dr. Afriyie said the results demonstrate that delegates in the Ashanti Region voted strictly on merit and competence, rather than on religious or ethnic considerations.

“The Ashanti Region has clearly rejected campaigns based on religious bigotry and ethnocentrism,” he stated. “This region has proven once again that it is one family, one people, and votes based on competence and capability.”
He noted that although two aspirants from the Ashanti Region contested the primary, delegates still overwhelmingly threw their support behind Dr. Bawumia, a move he described as evidence of political maturity and unity within the region.
Dr. Afriyie extended the region’s congratulations to Dr. Bawumia, describing the outcome as a deserved victory earned through personal strength rather than any so-called political “system.”
“There was no system behind Dr. Bawumia,” he stressed. “He won purely on his own merit, with God on his side and the strength of a committed campaign team across the country.”
He also appealed to supporters of Dr. Bawumia to exercise restraint in their celebrations, urging moderation, humility and responsible conduct in the aftermath of the polls.
“This is a party victory and must be celebrated by all,” he said. “We must come together as one NPP family because unity is crucial if we are to reclaim power from the NDC in the 2028 general elections.”
Dr. Afriyie further called on all aspirants and party members to rally behind Dr. Bawumia, noting that the election of a flagbearer was necessary to fill a leadership vacuum within the party.
“He has earned the mandate and deserves the total support of the party,” he added. “As leader, he must be accorded full respect and cooperation to lead the NPP into the 2028 electoral contest.”
