The Ashanti Regional Communications team of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has strongly condemned what it described as “derogatory and divisive” comments made by the Member of Parliament for Asante Akyem South, Kwaku Asante Boateng, against the former Vice President.
In a press statement issued and signed by Victor Osei Poku, Coordinating Head of the Ashanti Regional DMB Communications, the group said it was deeply concerned about remarks made by the MP in a viral video from a live program on Adom TV, in which he allegedly described Dr. Bawumia as “alien” and “a stranger” to the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
The statement described the MP’s comments as “false, unbecoming of a senior party member, and disrespectful to the founding principles of the NPP.”
According to the group, Hon. Asante Boateng’s claims were “ill-informed” and reflected “personal frustration rather than fact,” warning that such divisive rhetoric undermines party unity and disregards Dr. Bawumia’s long-standing loyalty and service to both the NPP and Ghana.
“Such statements undermine party unity and disregard the sacrifices and contributions of Dr. Bawumia, who has served the NPP and Ghana with loyalty, humility, and distinction,” the statement said.
It reminded the MP that the NPP Constitution particularly Articles 2(4), 3(1), and 13(3)(1&2) promotes inclusiveness, equality, and meritocracy, and therefore does not support any form of exclusion based on ethnicity or background.
The group further refuted claims that internal party tensions began with Dr. Bawumia’s political rise, stressing that incidents such as the 1998 Sunyani primaries, Alan Kyerematen’s 2007 resignation, and the 2015 suspensions of key party officers all occurred long before Dr. Bawumia became active in frontline politics.
It also highlighted Dr. Bawumia’s extensive contributions to the NPP and national development — from his time as Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana to his current tenure as Vice President — describing him as a symbol of competence, integrity, and loyalty.
The statement recalled Dr. Bawumia’s role as the NPP’s lead witness in the 2013 Presidential Election Petition, calling it “a proud moment in Ghana’s democratic history.”
“His unwavering loyalty and intellect have been instrumental in advancing the NPP’s vision of Development in Freedom,” it added.
The group reaffirmed that the NPP remains a democratic and inclusive party built on the principles of merit and opportunity rather than tribalism or gatekeeping.
It urged all party members, including Hon. Asante Boateng, to exercise restraint and promote unity as the party prepares for the 2028 general elections.
“We therefore urge all party faithful, including Hon. Asante Boateng, to uphold unity, respect, and decorum in public discourse, especially as we work collectively toward victory in the 2028 general elections,” the statement concluded.
