Dr. Frank Amoakohene, the Ashanti Regional Minister-Designate, has outlined a strategic vision to address key challenges facing the region, including unemployment, infrastructure development, and boosting the agricultural sector.
Speaking during his parliamentary vetting, Dr. Amoakohene emphasized his commitment to ensuring inclusive development and creating opportunities for the people of Ashanti.
Highlighting unemployment as one of the region’s pressing issues, he noted that the unemployment rate in Ashanti is “sadly above the national average.” He attributed the problem to structural inefficiencies and underutilization of resources, stating, “We must adopt innovative strategies to expand opportunities, particularly in the agricultural sector and other key industries.”
Dr. Amoakohene also stressed the need for robust policies to revitalize agriculture, describing it as a cornerstone of the region’s economy.
He proposed strengthening support for local farmers and agribusinesses, saying, “We must provide access to modern equipment, such as tractors and other resources, to ensure farmers are equipped to boost productivity and reduce isolation in rural farming communities.”
The minister-designate pledged to focus on building infrastructure that supports job creation and promotes sustainable development. He emphasized plans to enhance rural-urban connectivity, address barriers to trade, and attract investment into underdeveloped sectors.
“I am committed to expanding opportunities for businesses, particularly small and medium enterprises, to thrive. By building the necessary infrastructure and supporting private sector growth, we can tackle unemployment and boost economic activity,” Dr. Amoakohene stated.
Dr. Amoakohene also called for greater inclusivity in addressing regional disparities, noting the importance of engaging all stakeholders to ensure equitable access to opportunities. He promised to work with traditional leaders, local authorities, and the private sector to align development efforts with the needs of the people.
“We must prioritize strategies that reflect the realities on the ground, ensuring that every citizen, regardless of location, has access to basic necessities and opportunities,” he said.
The minister-designate assured the committee of his commitment to transparency and accountability, promising to deliver results that improve the lives of residents in the Ashanti Region.
“The good people of Ashanti deserve a leadership that listens, innovates, and delivers. My strategic vision focuses on unlocking the region’s potential while addressing the core issues of unemployment and development gaps,” he concluded.
Dr. Amoakohene’s submissions during the vetting session have been met with optimism, with many observers hopeful about his plans to bring transformative change to the region.
