The Member of Parliament for Asuogyaman, Thomas Ampem Nyarko, has inaugurated a fully equipped state-of-the-art health center in the New Powmu community, to improve access to quality healthcare services in the constituency.

The $400,000 Health Center facility which consists of ten bedrooms and comprehensive departments including maternity wards, a labor ward, male and female wards, a laboratory, OPD, and a pharmacy, aims to improve healthcare delivery and reducing pressure on VRA Hospital, the only hospital in the district which serves other surrounding districts as well.

Asuogyaman District Health Director Mrs. Rebecca Bantey praised the MP stating that the new center will provide essential services such as clinical care, maternal and child health, emergency services, and preventive care.

She emphasized that the facility will not only save lives but also elevate the quality of life for many individuals.

Aligned with the Ghana Health Service’s Network of Practice (NOP) strategy, the center is set to become a HUB within its network, with the goal of achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC) at the primary level

This model involves creating networks of health facilities to deliver comprehensive services, with the New Powmu Health Center designated as a pivotal HUB for the district.

“This facility will not only save lives but also improve the quality of life for countless individuals.
Lastly, to Commit ourselves to the ongoing mission of Network of Practice (NOP), a strategy being adopted by the Ghana Health Service to achieve Universal Health Coverage (UHC) at the primary level with a focus on improving quality health services, partnership and innovation, which involves creating networks of health facilities within a defined geographical area to provide comprehensive health services”.

The District Health Director noted further that,”One health centre within a network will be well equipped to become the MODEL HEALTH CENTRE (HUB). All other healthcare delivery entities then become the spokes (the model of the bicycle tyre). Currently the Asuogyaman district submitted Boso and Senchi Ferry Health centres to be upgraded to serve as the HUBS in those networks.

In the same vein, we foresee the New Powmu Health centre becoming the HUB for another network within the district in the near future. We pledge to continue working together—healthcare providers, community members, and all other stakeholders—to ensure that this facility remains a vibrant center of healthcare”.

MP for Asuogyaman Thomas Ampem Nyarko commended the New Powmu community, including Nana Akowuah, the chief, for their support and highlighted the facility’s strategic location to ease the burden on the VRA Hospital.

He noted that the project was a result of collaboration with the community and funding from a friend.

” This was a direct response from the Chiefs and people of New Powmu that the community having Instiated the Construction of a clinic for the past 15 years but could not go beyond foundation. When we came we even realized that the integrity of the foundation couldn’t be trusted so we had to bring everything down and start a fresh. The construction of the facility has been as a result of proper collaboration between myself, the community and my friends who provided funding for it. Funding was provided by a mate of mine when we were in KNUST”.Said Thomas Ampem Nyarko.

The MP listed a number of projects scheduled for commissioning in the constituency.

Odeneho Kwafo Akoto III Akwamumanhene, commended the MP’s commitment to development, reiterated the facility’s importance for the area’s holistic growth.

He admonished health workers posted to the Health Center to hold the highest of professionalism and observe universal precautions to prevent infections at the hospital.

Health workers were unveiled to immediately operationalize the facility which has now been officially handed over to the Ghana Health Service.

Present at the ceremony include were Kofi Adams, MP for Buem constituency, Samuel Bortei Borlabi, from the Eastern Regional Health Directorate and some regional executives of NDC.
