The Member of Parliament for Damongo and former Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel Abu Jinapor, has urged delegates of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to reject tribal politics and prioritize national unity in their political choices.
Speaking at a meeting with delegates in the Bantama Constituency, Mr. Jinapor emphasized that Ghanaians, irrespective of ethnic background or region, are one people bound by a shared history and common destiny.
He highlighted the long-standing relationship between the Asante people and communities in Northern Ghana, noting that it has been characterized by unity, cooperation, and mutual respect over the years.
The Damango MP cautioned delegates against allowing ethnic considerations to influence internal party decisions, urging them instead to focus on competence, leadership vision, and the broader interests of both the party and the country.
According to him, individuals who advance tribal narratives in politics demonstrate a lack of appreciation of Ghana’s history, stressing that the Northern and Southern parts of the country have traditionally enjoyed peaceful and harmonious relations.
He further appealed to delegates in Bantama to offer strong support to Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, assuring them that the Savannah Region, his home region, is equally committed to delivering overwhelming backing for Dr. Bawumia.
