The Asante Youth Association (AYA) has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Mr. Stephen Kwabena Boateng Esq., popularly known as Wofa Kwabena Kesse or Kessben, founder and Chief Executive Officer of the Kessben Group of Companies.
In a statement signed by its General Secretary, Tweneboa Kodua, the association described the late businessman as a distinguished son of Asanteman whose contributions to business, employment creation, philanthropy and youth development left a lasting impact on Kumasi and Ghana.
According to AYA, Mr. Kesse was more than a businessman, describing him as an entrepreneur, philanthropist, lawyer, employer and an inspiration to generations of Asante youth.
The association said that for more than three decades, he built a significant business empire from Kumasi, demonstrating his confidence in the economic potential of the city.
His business interests included Kessben FM, Kessben TV, Aseda TV, Kessben University College and Multi Credit Savings and Loans, among others. AYA said these ventures created employment opportunities, supported livelihoods and contributed to the economic development of Kumasi.
The association also highlighted his philanthropic activities, saying he regularly supported individuals and communities in times of need and used his resources to improve the lives of others.
AYA said one of Mr. Kesse’s most significant legacies was the example he set for young Asantes by demonstrating that it was possible to build successful enterprises locally, invest in one’s community and achieve success without abandoning one’s roots.
“Today, we do not mourn only a successful businessman. We mourn a father figure, mentor, philanthropist and distinguished son of Asanteman,” the association said.
AYA described his death as a major loss to his family, Kumasi, Asanteman and Ghana, but noted that the businesses he established, opportunities he created, entrepreneurs he inspired and lives he touched would continue to preserve his legacy.
The association extended its condolences to the bereaved family, the Kessben Group of Companies, the media fraternity, the business community and all others mourning his death.
“Wofa Kwabena Kesse, your footprints are deeply etched in Kumasi. Your legacy will live on,” AYA said.
It concluded with the traditional Asante expression of mourning: “Damirifa Due! Damirifa Due!”
