Upper West Regional Youth Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Basiera Sankara, has declared his intention to contest for the party’s National Youth Organiser position.
Mr Sankara made the declaration on Saturday, August 22, 2026, at the NDC Upper West Regional Youth and TEIN retreat in Wa, where he cited his long-standing service to the party and experience in youth mobilisation and governance.
“My service has been tried on youth mobilisation, tested in governance,” he said.

He pledged to build on the gains made by previous occupants of the position and provide leadership that would strengthen the party’s youth wing if elected.
Mr Sankara also acknowledged the support of key NDC figures from the Upper West Region, including Speaker of Parliament Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, Alhaji Uthman Gbangu, Upper West Regional Minister, Regional Chairman Abdul Nasir Saani and the region’s 11 NDC Members of Parliament.
“I, Basiera Sankara, have served with humility, and I’m ready to serve again,” he declared, appealing to party members across the country to support his bid.

Mr Sankara is currently the Upper West Regional Director of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) and Dean of the NDC Regional Youth Organisers.
His political and public service experience includes serving as Deputy Regional Organiser, Wa West Constituency Youth Organiser, Assembly Member, Presiding Member and District Chief Executive for Wa West in 2016.
His declaration adds another contender to the race for leadership of the NDC’s national youth wing as the party prepares for its internal elections.
