Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has opened a commanding lead in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential primaries, as provisional results from several constituencies continue to trickle in across the country.
Early tallies from multiple polling centres suggest that Dr. Bawumia is well placed to secure the party’s flagbearer position for the 2028 general elections, having recorded strong performances in key constituencies nationwide.
At the NPP Headquarters, Dr. Bawumia polled 308 votes, ahead of Kennedy Agyapong, who secured 160 votes. Kwabena Agyei Agyepong polled 7 votes, while Dr. Bryan Acheampong and Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum garnered 3 and 2 votes respectively.
In Adansi Asokwa, Dr. Bawumia recorded a decisive 306 votes, far ahead of Kennedy Agyapong’s 114 and Dr. Bryan Acheampong’s 70. Similarly, he dominated voting in Yabaga/Kubori, polling 379 votes, with all other aspirants recording zero votes at that centre.
Strong showings were also recorded in Effiduase Asokore, where Dr. Bawumia polled 456 votes, and Sekondi, where he secured 392 votes, significantly outperforming his closest challengers.
In Bole Bamboi, the former Vice President led with 375 votes, followed by Kennedy Agyapong with 142 and Dr. Bryan Acheampong with 71. He also topped results in Klottey Korley with 366 votes, and Nkawkaw, where he polled 368 votes, ahead of Dr. Bryan Acheampong’s 312.
However, some constituencies recorded tighter contests. In Okere, the race was closely contested, with Dr. Bryan Acheampong polling 169 votes, Kennedy Agyapong 164, and Dr. Bawumia 162. In Ho Central, Dr. Bryan Acheampong led with 233 votes, narrowly ahead of Dr. Bawumia’s 227, while Kennedy Agyapong secured 142.
Meanwhile, results from Assin Central showed Kennedy Agyapong leading decisively with 495 votes, while Dr. Bawumia polled 28 votes. In Akim Swedru, Dr. Bawumia again led with 177 votes, followed by Dr. Bryan Acheampong (66) and Kennedy Agyapong (45).
At Bimbilla, partial results showed Dr. Bryan Acheampong leading with 118 votes, followed by Kennedy Agyapong with 61 votes, while results for the other aspirants were yet to be declared at the time of filing this report.
Counting and collation remain ongoing in several constituencies, with party officials urging calm as the process continues. While final results are yet to be officially declared, the emerging trends point to a clear nationwide advantage for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the NPP moves closer to announcing its flagbearer for the 2028 elections.
