Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has committed to ensuring the passage of the Broadcasting Bill before the 8th Parliament dissolves.
Speaking during a media engagement on Sunday, August 25, the Vice President assured journalists that the government is determined to see the bill passed before the final parliamentary session.
“In line with our philosophy and commitment to upholding the fundamental rights to free speech and media freedoms, as well as expanding the frontiers of individual rights, we will pass and fully implement the Broadcasting Bill before the last session of Parliament this year to better safeguard media freedoms and pluralism,” Dr. Bawumia stated.
He also emphasized the government’s commitment to furthering media development by promising continued support for the Media Capacity Enhancement Programme. “We will continue to resource the Media Capacity Enhancement Programme to enhance the knowledge and skills of journalists,” he added.
Dr. Bawumia’s remarks highlight the NPP’s dedication to reinforcing media freedoms and ensuring the continued growth and professional development of the media industry in Ghana.
