The Ghana Police Service has refuted media reports alleging that officers raided the residence of the Bono East Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), resulting in the death of an individual.
In a statement released on Saturday, the Police described the claim as “false” and “misleading,” stating that no such raid was carried out on the property of Mr. Ibrahim Baba Bukari, the NPP Regional Chairman.
According to the Police, the incident occurred around 1:20 a.m. on Friday, August 1, 2025, when officers from the Bono East Regional Command responded to intelligence about a robbery in progress.
Upon arrival, they encountered suspects attempting to escape by scaling a wall.
One of the suspects, identified as Seidu Bukari, was shot during the operation. He was rushed to the hospital but later pronounced dead.
Investigations later confirmed that the house involved belonged to Mr. Bukari, but the operation was not targeted at him.
The Police revealed that the deceased was a known member of a notorious robbery gang that has been linked to multiple cases of motorcycle thefts in Techiman and surrounding communities, with the stolen bikes reportedly transported to Kumasi for resale.
Authorities said the gang had returned to Techiman for another robbery when they were intercepted.
A motorbike and other suspected robbery tools were retrieved at the scene.
A manhunt is currently underway for the remaining suspects who fled.
To ensure transparency, the Inspector-General of Police has deployed a special team from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), the Police Professional Standards Bureau, and the Police Intelligence Directorate to carry out a full investigation.
The Police have urged the public to disregard misinformation and remain calm as the investigation continues.
