Businesses must move beyond simply adopting technology and learn to use artificial intelligence (AI), digital tools and partnerships to improve productivity, reach new markets and remain competitive, experts have said.
The experts made the call at the third edition of the MTN Masterclass Series in Accra, where more than 120 entrepreneurs and business customers discussed opportunities and challenges in Ghana’s growing digital economy.
Speaking on the impact of AI on work and business, Rachael Tachie-Menson, Founder and Managing Partner of Author Digital Labs, said the technology was changing how value was created and increasing the importance of critical thinking, judgement, leadership and industry expertise.
She said businesses should focus on what AI makes possible rather than what it might replace.
Isaac Kofi Maafo, CEO of DigiTransact AI and Executive Director of BulkSMS Ghana, urged small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to begin with simple digital tools that address specific operational challenges.
“Use simple tools with clarity and discipline,” he advised, stressing that AI could help entrepreneurs improve productivity and solve routine business problems.
Gideon Asare, CEO of Adansi Travels and Founder of Africon AI, said digital platforms had reduced geographical barriers for businesses and created opportunities to attract customers beyond their immediate locations.

He encouraged businesses to combine digital platforms with strategic partnerships to expand their reach and access new markets.
The panellists also stressed the importance of credibility and trust in the digital space, urging businesses and professionals to consistently share useful information and build genuine relationships with their audiences.
The discussions were held under the theme, “Thriving in the Digital Economy: Unlocking Opportunities in a Digital-First World.”
Eric Puplampu, Senior Manager, Products, User Experience and Design at MTN Ghana, said the masterclass was intended to give businesses practical knowledge to navigate changes in the digital economy.
The fourth edition of the series is expected to be held later this year.
