The National Chairman of NDC Johnson Asiedu Nketia has called for total recovery of all looted resources at Electricity Company of Ghana(ECG) under the previous administration and prosecution persons found culpable.
The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) is saddled with a debt of GHS 67 billion as of March 2025, according to the Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Dr. John Abdulai Jinapor.
To avoid total collapse of the energy sector, Parliament has approved the Energy Sector Levy (Amendment) Bill, 2025, introducing a GHS1 increase in the levy on petroleum products.
This intervention is expected to generate an additional 5.7 billion Ghana Cedis in revenue to reduce the energy sector debts and support stable power supply.
Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, says $3.7 billion dollars is required to fully clear the energy sector debt arrears .
Addressing 46th anniversary commemoration of June 4 uprising in Odumase Krobo in Eastern Region, Johnson Asiedu Nketia stated that persons culpable of misappropriating funds and resources at ECG resulting in erratic power supply must be prosecuted to recover the loot.
“If you are wondering why dumsor has been lurking out ask yourself what has happened to the state institutions that provide us power you will find out that it is people who were put there to run this institutions who run them into a ditch ,messed up with all the resources and that is what we are having the intermittent blackout” .
He added ” I am not sure everybody is enjoying it but we have to reset we must chase the resources where they are and recover those resources and we must punish people who have misappropriated this resources so that we recover those resources and out them to good use ,and the services that we so deserve will be provided”
He said the Reset Agenda is about probity and accountability.
“It is about resetting the country,it is about holding people accountable for a mandate that the population has given them.it is about holding people to account for the looting of our state resources and we shouldn’t allow political parties to be the refuge for Criminals .A criminal remains a criminal whether he is NDC or NPP”.
