Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Vice Presidential candidate for the 2024 elections, has confirmed that the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) is investigating aspects of his tenure as Ghana’s Education Minister.
Speaking to the press in Accra on June 4, 2025, Dr. Opoku Prempeh widely known as NAPO disclosed that he had been summoned twice by the NIB to respond to inquiries related to his time at the Ministry of Education.
“I’ve been invited by the NIB on two occasions to address questions regarding my tenure as Education Minister some of the matters are things I hardly even remember. But the necessary records exist,” he stated.
This revelation comes amid a broader crackdown on alleged corruption by the current administration, led by President John Dramani Mahama. The government has launched investigations into the activities of several former officials, intensifying scrutiny of the previous NPP-led administration.
Dr. Opoku Prempeh is not the only high-profile figure facing investigative action. Bernard Antwi Boasiako, also known as Chairman Wontumi and the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP, is currently under investigation by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) for alleged corruption and money laundering.
President Mahama recently announced that the Attorney-General and Minister for Justice is compiling evidence for 33 separate cases of alleged corruption and related offences involving former government appointees. These cases are based on findings from the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) Team an anti-corruption unit formed after the President’s 2024 election victory.
The ORAL Team was mandated to investigate suspected corrupt practices under the previous government and forward credible findings to appropriate state agencies for prosecution.
