Religious leaders across Ghana have urged the Electoral Commission (EC) to maintain integrity and impartiality in the lead-up to the December 2024 elections.
Representing both Christian and Muslim communities, the leaders emphasized the necessity of transparency in the Commission’s activities to safeguard the credibility of the electoral process.
On Tuesday 1st October 2024 , a coalition of clergy members marched through Kumasi in the rains, advocating for peace before, during, and after the elections.
The group later presented a petition to Electoral Commission officials in the Ashanti Region, highlighting their concerns and urging the EC to ensure a fair and transparent process.
Rev. Dr. Enoch Kwabena Nketiah, convener of the Coalition of Muslim and Christian Clergy, spoke to the press, stressing the need for an open and accountable electoral system.
In response, Ashanti Regional EC Director Francis Osei Nsiah reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to delivering free and fair elections in December.
The meeting took place alongside an Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) session, where political parties and stakeholders discussed voter registration concerns.
The religious leaders also pledged their continued support through prayer and signaled their intention to engage with political parties to promote peace.
