David Opare Donkor, popularly known as Kwame Wilder, a Ghanaian media practitioner, student leader and political communicator, has been appointed as the 5th Speaker of Parliament of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology Distance Learning Students’ Association (KNUST-DLSA). His appointment marks another significant milestone in his growing career in student leadership, media, advocacy and political communication.
David Opare Donkor’s leadership and political journey spans several years. During the 2024 general elections, he served as the Campaign Spokesperson for Sports and Creative Arts for the Liberal Party Ghana (LPG), contributing to the party’s campaign communication and engagements within the sports and creative arts sector.
In the academic space, Donkor served as President of the Mass Communication and Journalism Students’ Association during the 2024/2025 academic year. He also served on the Kumasi Technical University (KsTU) SRC Parliament Committee on Legal Affairs, where he gained experience in parliamentary procedures, student governance and institutional leadership.
Beyond student politics, David Opare Donkor currently serves as the Media Aide to Hon. Wisdom Osei Boamah, Municipal Chief Executive for the Atwima Nwabiagya Municipal Assembly.
His role involves supporting the communication and public visibility of the Assembly’s programmes, development initiatives and activities, further strengthening his experience in media, public relations and strategic communication.
His appointment as the 5th KNUST-DLSA Speaker of Parliament came at a time when his contributions to student politics, media and advocacy were also being recognised. At the KNUST-DLSA Awards, Donkor received two major honours, Most Promising Student Politician of the Year and Student Media and Advocacy Personality of the Year, recognising his growing influence and contribution to student leadership, political communication and advocacy.
The latest appointment and awards add to what has become a notable leadership journey for David Opare Donkor, popularly known as Kwame Wilder. As Speaker, he is expected to provide leadership to the KNUST-DLSA Parliament and champion effective representation, accountability and constructive engagement among distance-learning students.
His journey from student media and political activism to parliamentary leadership continues to position him as one of the emerging young voices in student governance and public communication.
